Farmstead Micro Dairy

Quality A2A2 Raw Milk Dairy Products

The milk makes all the difference!

Sage River Farmstead is a raw milk micro dairy here in Stevensville Montana. Our small herd of A2A2 Jerseys produce exceptional milk that we love being able to share with you! All products are made on my farm by me with milk from my girls.

Why Raw milk?

We keep our products, milk and cheeses raw as much as we can to ensure our customers are getting the most out of the food they eat. Raw milk is a living food which in its whole state give superior nutrition, probiotics, vitamins and minerals.

A2A2 Milk

Our milk comes from A2A2 cows, meaning it contains only A2 type beta-casein protein. Many people find A2 milk easier to digest and gentler on the stomach than conventional milk. Rich, creamy and naturally nourishing, it delivers all the nutritional benefits of farm fresh milk with more readily digestible protein.

Ready for Milk

Milk is brought straight from the farm to this pick up location on a daily basis. Any milk left from the prior day is taken back to the farmstead. Milk is sold in sterilized glass containers. Please exchange a clean half gallon glass wide mouth mason jar for every jar of milk purchased. Without jar exchange there is an additional $5 jar purchase fee per jar. All dairy products are best stored in the container they are purchased in and refrigerated at 38 F degrees or below. Warmer refrigeration temperatures will result in more rapid flavor change due to fermentation. Unlike pasteurized milk and products, raw dairy flavor will change due to fermentation (becoming cheese) not putrefaction (going bad).

Say Cheese

At Sage River Farmstead my true dairy passion is cheese! I love the potion making processes that results in beautifully rich and flavorful cheese. I only use fresh warm straight from the cow milk for cheese making. All cheese made at Sage River Farmstead is made using natural 100% unprocessed calf rennet. There are a few styles of cheese I absolutely love making and I feel fit the milk my girls produce the best.

Firstly, the clothbound cheddar is unique, and buttery with strong cheddar up front notes and a finish that is nutty with a hint of dried fruit. Classically cheddar is wrapped in cloth soaked in lard to create the perfect ageing barrier and flavor.

In the mood for something more elegant and smoother. Buttery french style Gruyere is a semi soft smooth and supple cheese that is great for any cheese board or for melting.

Beware Camembert can be life changing. This classic gooey bloomy rind cheese is  dare I say better than its sister Brie. This oozy, soft, creamy dream of a cheese is an immediate grab if you see it at the farmstand or farmers market.
